Accelerated Reader

I'm so proud of Onna!

Accelerated Reader is a program that is used at our school. The student picks out and reads a book at his/her reading level (indicated by a sticker on the book). Then the student takes a computerized quiz to monitor reading performance and vocabulary growth. Teachers and parents then have access to this information.

In August she tested at grade level 0.9, which was fine for just starting first grade. By December she'd moved up to 1.8, which was still right on target. Now she's at 3.2!

For each book Onna reads and gets at least an 80% on the quiz, she earns 0.5 points. This school year Onna has accumulated 62 points!

All that reading for AR has paid off. Way to go!! At 10 points and 25 points the students receive a small prize, and at 50 points they receive a t-shirt. Next week there will be a carnival at school. For every point they earned they will be given tickets to spend at the carnival. What a great way to encourage reading!
